IM40 Makes a Huge Impact for One Kent County Teen

When Sarah Saintile heard about IM40 during health class in 2013, she became a 4-H Healthy Living Ambassador and youth educator almost immediately.  Since then, Sarah has embraced her role in IM40, participating in many 4-H initiatives and volunteering as a representative for both 4-H and IM40.  Now 17, Sarah hosts IM40 tables at events, gives presentations and co-facilitates IM40 asset building lessons for youth and even adults in training.

Since she was first introduced to IM40, Sarah says that she has grown to see the many possibilities and opportunities available.  She has become more involved in helping others, contributes to her community and finds her own opportunities for asset building.  IM40 focuses on the 40 assets that are essential to human development. Sarah is now looking into internships and other programs where she can build on her assets and her résumé.

In the future, Sarah sees herself becoming a surgeon.  She plans to attend a four-year college, majoring in biology or another health science and then medical school.  IM40 has not only taught Sarah to create better opportunities for herself, but also how important it is to share the assets with others.

“You never know if you’re going to like something until you do it.  Be open and just try it,” said Sarah.  “I really like to be involved in things.  I want to learn.”

Sarah uses this advice to recruit many new Healthy Living Ambassadors, including her sister Robine.
