College & Career Success
Education should evolve to meet the demands of both work and life so that our children can be successful. But even though employers are hiring in Delaware and Salem County (NJ), young people can’t get jobs. The unemployment rate for 20-24 year-olds more than doubled any other age group in 2014. Our kids weren’t getting the training they need despite the fact that they were capable of doing the work.
Delaware Pathways was created to resolve this skills gap and fix a broken system.
By 2025, 65% of Delaware’s workforce will have a professional certification or college degree. This will match the percentage of jobs that require one. That is former Governor John Carney’s “Delaware Promise” and our commitment. United Way of Delaware is working to help our community partners connect high school career preparation with specialized training from employers. Our students will develop the skills they need to be successful. And they will meet the demands of the new economy.
