For decades, opportunities to attend college, learn a trade, or find a good paying job, were only reserved for certain people. At United Way of Delaware, we know if we’re going to build better, we must give the same opportunities to every teen in every school district. Access to career pathways, helps prepare more kids for the future, leading to a more productive workforce, and a better Delaware and Salem County.
62% of Growing Jobs Require Specialized Training
Based on national data, most future jobs will require special training. That means our youth will need specific skills to compete for the best paying careers.
50% of High School Students Need Math or English Remediation
In 2017, approximately 50% of all high school students in Delaware needed extra support to pass their core classes, such as math and English.
Only 52% of Delaware’s Young Workers are Prepared for Skilled Jobs
48% of 18-24 year olds in Delaware leave high school unable to compete for mid and high-skill jobs.

We need to invest in our teens who are at risk of dropping out of school. We need to ensure black and brown students who start college can graduate.
