My Very Own Library

Grade-Level Reading

Research shows that when students build their own libraries, they learn to love reading. The United Way of Delaware’s My Very Own Library program provides free, brand-new books to students so they can build a personal home library. When students can choose the books they want to call their own, they develop stronger literacy skills, which can lead to better test scores and a lasting love and joy for reading.

The program is free for participating students, thanks to generous partnerships with Scholastic®, DuPont, Global Shapers, and the University of Chicago

During the 2020-2021 school year, over 70,000 books and 6,000 literacy kits will be provided to students attending 14 participating schools throughout New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties.
