What is Afterschool?

The hours after the last school bell rings and before parents typically return home from work is a time of endless opportunities and potential for young people. It can be a time of learning and growth when kids explore new topics like science, technology, engineering, and math, discover new interests, and develop their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills alongside supportive mentors.

And this is what afterschool looks like for school-age students and families!

The Delaware Afterschool Network (DEAN) and our partners endorse that all school-age children be academically, socially, culturally, and physically healthy. DEAN works to create a long-term policy voice for afterschool programs, advocate for policies that support high-quality programs, support the afterschool workforce, increase public awareness regarding afterschool programs, build bridges between schools and community-based organizations, and support family-centered practices.

DEAN continues to build a statewide afterschool network to advance, strengthen, and coordinate a unified vision that informs policy, promotes access to quality programs, and advocates for an equitable and inclusive Delaware.

The 50 State Afterschool Network is the aggregate of 50 independent networks, sharing the collective impact and innovations in supporting and expanding afterschool and summer learning programs nationwide.

The Delaware Afterschool Network (DEAN) is funded through the Charles S. Mott Foundation and powered by the United Way of Delaware.
