In response to COVID-19 It is of critical importance to the health and safety of Delawareans that our seniors shelter in place, and that they have the support to do so.

Delaware’s 211, United Way, Volunteer Delaware, The Office of Volunteerism, and DEVOAD are working collaboratively to provide seniors the support system they need to stay safe and shelter in place.  211 is the central volunteer hotline accepting calls from volunteers and those in need.

DEVOAD is Delaware’s coordinating body for voluntary emergency response organizations. Volunteer Delaware and The Office of Volunteerism encourages and coordinates volunteer opportunities throughout the state of Delaware.
Together this team will ​enable and encourage seniors to shelter in place through a support system that includes wellness checks, grocery and medication runners.  This service will also be offered to immune compromised individuals and those with disabilities.

Qualifications:

● Preferably you are 18 and older (and not immunocompromised)

● You have access to transportation, and a willingness to safely leave your home

● You are trustworthy and responsible, and able to follow specific instructions

● You are a good and patient communicator and adept with using technology

● Must be a local Delawarean

Responsibilities: Senior Support Volunteers will be integral to Delaware’s COVID-19 response, by ensuring seniors and aging populations have access to all of their basic needs.  In this role the incumbent will navigate technology needs with clients. Downloading and using video/ software to aid in their connection with family and community.

Volunteers are responsible for performing virtual wellness checks with clients and overall navigation of benefits and services available. Volunteers will also be responsible for grocery and medical runs as needed. Once daily check-ins are required to ensure comfort and the feeling of companionship by the client. Volunteers are charged with following strict guidance and guidelines to support clients needs, while also operating with care and concern for hygiene. This would be a 5-10 hour a week commitment.
