Invest Now for a Stronger Future

I often speak with you about our focus area of ensuring that all children are reading on grade level by third grade, and yet achieving that goal still eludes us in Delaware.

We recently discussed some of the reasons this situation persists with Dorrell Green, Superintendent of Red Clay School District, at our annual celebration.

Supt. Green spoke about what he called “collective impact,” that is, how the entirety of a student’s life contributes to whether that child will make the grade. He spoke of things such as working parents’ abilities to be present and contribute to the child’s educational preparedness, how communities in which the child lives help define their feelings of safety and inclusion, how organizations can offer supports such as learning pods, afterschool and summer programs.

You can listen to Supt. Green’s comments here.

Our work for literacy is holistic, ranging from providing literacy resources to ongoing support of afterschool and summer programs, working with our partners in the community to provide programs to prevent summer learning loss, and supporting quality afterschool and summer programs.

Today you have the power to make a real difference in the lives of children and the health of our state. With a donation to United Way of Delaware now, you invest in children’s access to quality summer programming, literacy and STEM programs, recreational and physical activities, and healthy meals. This approach has been proven to minimize learning loss, help close the achievement gap, and increase the likelihood of educational success.

The children we help today are the leaders, employees and voters of tomorrow. Please help support our work to help all children be the best they can be.

Please take a moment and give today. The need is urgent.

Sincerely,
Michelle
